UMH tranche 2: 2024 - 2028

The University of Amsterdam (UvA) research priority area (RPA) Urban Mental Health (UMH) involves a research collaboration between three faculties: Social and Behavioral Sciences (FMG), Sciences (FNWI) and Medicine (FG/AMC) as well as the Institute for Advanced Study. The first period (UMH-1) of this RPA ran from 2019-2023, the current second period runs from 2024 through 2028 (UMH-2).

In the second period, main efforts will focus on potential effects of interventions, thus optimizing timing and personalization of existing interventions, combinations of interventions or developing novel interventions.

Team Science across three faculties and three overarching themes

In UMH-2, the overall research within UMH will be conducted within transdisciplinary research themes focusing on the overarching topics below. These research themes of UMH-2 each involve members of across the three faculties, and each theme will be led by one of the three faculties involved. Per theme, there will be two research teams.

Theme 1 (FNWI): Urban stress and common mental health conditions, mechanisms, and effect of interventions

Theme 2 (FG/AMC): Multilevel interventions for common mental health conditions and urbanicity

Theme 3 (FMG): Personalization of interventions for common mental health conditions and urbanicity

UMH will thus have Team science at its core in the coming years.

Groundworks

As kickstart for the Team science phase, six research projects have recently been selected following an open call, with each project setup from at least two different departments.

The selected projects are listed on this page.

During the remainder of 2024 and in the beginning of 2025, faculty-based recurring Team Science meetings are being setup, involving researchers from across disciplines and departments. With excitement, we look forward to what this evolving setup for UMH will foster over the course of the next few years.

Stay tuned for updates!
